Our Big Journey is coming to a sudden end. We are headed to Chicago due to a family illness. Wildfire season was nowhere near being over. We have driven East for a day and a half and are now in Nebraska, the state that never ends. I treated Leslie and Rex to their first night in a Walmart parking lot last night.
We are 750 miles from Salmon, ID where we started yesterday. The smoke haze is still wicked. The Airstream is headed home for the first time since January last year.

Ya know how earlier in the Summer I kept writing about the weather. In addition to the heat, we now are in the Wildfire season. We were thinking about going to Glacier NP but have been watching the fire activity spoil vacations there. This week we headed West and are now in Missoula, MT. Two days ago lighting strikes started about 25 fires in Western Montana. Missoula makes your eyes burn. Not sure which direction we will go. Idaho looks like it’s next on the fire watch. One good lightening storm and its on fire. A little disappointed as we are surrounded by world class trout waters.
We got to see one of my favorite bands, Wilco, last night in a neat setting at the Big Sky Brewing Company. They played for 2 hours and only stopped due to high winds effecting their ability to play.
We Left Yellowstone about a week ago, we have stayed close by. We ventured east towards Cody and then spent several nights off of the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway in the Shoshone National Forest. Had a close viewing of a bear that wandered through our campground. I was too slow to get a picture, but my bear spray stayed with me for the rest of the stay.
Yesterday we cut back through Yellowstone and exited the north entrance of the park. We are camped along the Yellowstone River just south of Livingston, Montana. The trout are safe. Last weekend’s storms have muddied the river. In total we spent six weeks in Wyoming. All of it in or near Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.
