Down Days

September 19, 2016

Today is a “down day”. ¬†I’m not referring to my mood, just describing some of the more mundane aspects of our traveling. ¬† On a down day we do laundry, shower, grocery shopping and maybe minor Airstream maintenance. ¬†Today we are in a RV Park outside of Zion NP. ¬†It’s a good day for a down day. ¬†Temps are high and we have full utilities including A/C and cable TV which means Monday Night Football. ¬†We also have good wifi which is rare in our travels.

Since we have wifi I thought I would post a video I made in June describing our camp choices.

Some Boondocking sites this Summer.

Tomorrow we travel from Zion to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Middle of Nowhere

September 15, 2016

It seems like a month ago we left the coast of California. ¬†It’s only been 10 days but a lot of miles. ¬†Look Pioche, Nevada up on the map. ¬†I told Leslie after today, that I’ve never driven so far and seen so few people. ¬†We drove about 350 miles from Mono Lake, CA to Pioche. ¬†Not that Pioche was our destination, just a place to rest.

The last 10 days have been very touristy. ¬†Not to put down the poor folks that aren’t professional travelers.

We’ve been to Sequoia National Park, King’s Canyon National Park, and Yosemite. ¬†We are now headed to Zion National Park. ¬†Did you all know 2016 is the Centennial Celebration of the Park Service.

From Redwoods to Wedding

September 4, 2016

We have been on the “Central Coast” south of San Francisco for about a week. ¬†I continue to get lost and surprised at every turn. ¬†When I expect urban sprawl I find winding, forested hillsides. ¬†We are now in Monterrey/Carmel. ¬†Every time I get in the car we get lost. ¬†It’s beautiful, but sometimes I miss the gridded streets of Chicago.

We have just had a great time at our friends, Kristy and Brian’s wedding celebration. ¬†They did it perfectly, traveled 2000 miles from home, rented out a Pebble¬†Beach home and had a poolside barbecue.
